Program of the International Jazz Festival for the night of Saturday, July 20

19-07-2019

Jazz San Javier opens Saturday night with the Argentine singer of jazz Karen Souza, whose deep and sensual voice has led to jazz classic pop or rock themes of the last decades as "Creep" by Radiohead, one of its most celebrated versions. Coming from house music, Karen Souza started her career in jazz when she was invited to participate in the collections "Jazz and 80s "," Jazz and 70s "and" Jazz and 90s ", which grouped great pop songs of those decades in jazz format. "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me ", by Culture Club or" Personal Jesus ", by Depeche Mode, were other titles with which surprised critic and public for its unique way of taking them to another style, jazz, where Karen is happily installed since then.

His first album "Essentials" (2011) includes some of those versions, although Karen soon started working on her own album for which he had producer Joel McNeely, who had worked for artists like Tony Bennett, Al Green or Jaco Pastorious, among others. With a luxury production, Karen publishes Hotel Souza (2012) which would follow "Velvet Vault" (2018) with the that is consolidated with one of the new and more suggestive voices of contemporary jazz. At his first visit to Jazz San Javier will be accompanied by the great Catalan pianist Jaume Vilaseca, Dick Them on double bass and electric bass, Ramón Díaz on drums and David Pedragrosa on guitar.
