The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo said yesterday that "the Storm tanks are not the solution but they are one more help "in relationship to the recovery of the Mar Menor, during the inauguration of the environmental tank built on the Avenida Patrulla Águila, Santiago de la Ribera, which took place yesterday afternoon with the presence of Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Miguel Ángel del Love.
The works of the third storm or environmental tank with which account Santiago de la Ribera have included two collectors stormwater interceptors that will capture the first waters of rains, preventing them from reaching the Mar Menor. These first waters, which are the ones that contain the most trailing waste, will remain retained inside the tank for later incorporation into the network sanitation and its evacuation to the treatment plant and to be reused as irrigation water in agriculture.
The counselor Miguel Ángel del Amor, explained yesterday, that the works, that have had a cost of 2,116,906.16 euros, "will allow store a total volume of 5,700m3 in the tank that next to the collector holding capacity would be 6,500, quantity enough to hold a normal rain hour in the area. "
